Could you believe that there are over 50 unaccredited Universities and tertiary institutions in Ghana? Read on to found out…
The operation of illegal educational institutions is really becoming a worrisome global issue in recent times. If you have been a victim of the pains of wasted years in an unaccredited institution or seen someone who was a victim, you’ll be in a better position to understand what it is like. As for me, I’ve not been a victim, but I’ve seen people who were. Some students are so unfortunate that they will not get to realize their fate until they have completed the stipulated number of years for their course of study and this usually ranges between 4-5 years. Some of them end up committing suicide. Yes, it’s as bad as that!
I think this is one of the reasons why the National Accreditation Board came up with a list of higher institutions that are not accredited in Ghana. What does it actually mean for an institution to be accredited? An accredited institution is a Public or Private institution that has been given full authority to operate as an academic institution by the government mandated body, and therefore could award certificates to their graduates depending on the type of study they underwent. On the other hand, unaccredited universities are those who have not been given the legal rights to award any form of certificates to individuals, be it Diplomas, Degrees, Professional Certificates, etc.

Do not ever think that this misfortune is meant to befall only a particular set of foolish or rather, evil people; that’s not true. Anybody can be a victim of such. The only way to avoid it is by being up to date and well-informed. And looking at the current cost of tertiary education in Ghana, it is not worth giving a try. Avail yourself this great opportunity of knowing the Universities that are illegal in Ghana at the moment. It is also very important that you consult the NAB to ensure an institution’s accreditation status before enrolling there for studies. It will save you and those around you a whole lot of untold misfortune.
