Five out of the 12 persons declared wanted by the Police Service in connection with the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region have been arrested.
According to the police, the 5, Bernard Asamoah a.k.a Daddy, Bismark Asamoah a.k.a Rasta, Sarah Mensah, John Boakye and Kwame Awona were arrested last week.
It added that the first seven suspects who were remanded to police custody by a Cape Coast District Court on Thursday, 1st June 2017, appeared before the court today 19th June, 2017.
In a Facebook post, the Police Service said, the 7, William Baah (Assemblyman of Denkyira Obuasi), Bismark Donkor, Phillip Badu, Kofi Nyame, Anthony Amoah, Kofi Badu and Yaw Annor were discharged by the court, but were re-arrested by the Police.
“The first seven suspects re-appeared before a Cape Coast District Court today 19/06/2017, however as part of strategies to achieve a successful prosecution the 7 were discharged by the Court and re-arrested by the Police to be put together with other suspects for a complete and effective criminal proceedings,” the Police said.
The deceased, an officer of the 5th Infantry Battalion, was lynched and partly burnt by some youth of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region on Monday, May 29, 2017, on suspicion that he was an armed robber.
Over 45 suspects have so far been arrested by the police in connection with the murder.
Meanwhile, the Police administration has given an indication that it is working assiduously to ensure that persons involved in the heinous crime are prosecuted.
