The five WAFU stars played very significant roles in helping Ghana emerge winners of the just ended 2017 regional tournament.
Speculations are rife that some 5 Black Stars B players who shined during the 2017 WAFU tournament are likely to be called up by Coach Kwesi Appiah to join the senior team in the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Uganda.
The Junior Team trashed Nigeria 4-1 to lift the 2017 WAFU Cup after the tournament’s final game last Sunday.
Among the speculated home-based players are Hearts of Oak duo Vincent Atingah and Cobbinah Winful, Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong, Aduana Stars goalie Joseph Addo and Inter Allies Isaac Twum.
Performances of these WAFU Stars in the just ended tournament reportedly caught the attention of Coach Appiah who is known for giving local players opportunities to rise and shine.

Among others who contributed to making Ghana emerge champions of the 2017 WAFU, the five players played very significant roles, with Isaac Twum crowned Best Player of the competition.
Aduana’s Joseph Addo particularly showed off very impressive goalkeeping skills during the WAFU, conceding just three goals as Ghana toppled Nigeria to lift the 2017 trophy. Some fans are already considering the former Kpando Hearts of Lions goalie for the No.1 position in Black Stars senior team.
Recall that Joseph Addo and Gideon Waja were the only two local based players who earned a place in James Kwesi Appiah’s team in their double header against Congo.
Coach Kwesi Appiah, his assistant Ibrahim Tanko and other Black Stars technical staff who were present at the Cape Coast stadium during Sunday’s match were greatly impressed by the team’s efforts.
Moreover, Kwesi Appiah being one of such coaches who love giving chances to young and upcoming players, is very likely to create spaces for these WAFU stars in the squad for Ghana’s imminent face-off with Uganda on October 7.
Mr. Appiah had earlier promised that the national team squad will continually be based on competition and expertise. This he said, urging all junior team players to work hard as they will from time to time get spots in the senior team squad if they do well.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars Coach is expected to announce the Black Stars squad to take on Uganda later this week.
