The thirty-two suspects, alleged to be late Major Mahama killers and remanded into police custody for their alleged roles in the murder, are expected to be arraigned on July 6. The suspects who appeared in court on June 21, were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder. 8 more suspects who are still at large, are still being searched for by the Ghana Police Service.
The prosecutor, DSP George Amegah, had pleaded with the court, presided over by Mr. Ebenezer Kwaku Ansah, to remand the accused persons in police custody, to give more time to the police to continue with their investigations.
The Accra Central District Court, which is handling the committal procedure, also ordered that one of the accused persons, who claimed to be 17 years, should be sent to the Senior Correctional Centre, also known as the Borstal Institute until police investigations confirmed his age.
Late major Mahama who was a member of the 5th Infantry Battalion was lynched and burnt by some residents of Diaso, in Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, after he was mistaken to be an armed robber. Mahama is said to have been on his daily jogging routine on Monday, May 29, when some angry youth of the town attacked him, allegedly on suspicion of being an armed robber.

The police recently arrested a woman who allegedly raised the alarm leading to the death of the late soldier. The woman -a snail seller going by the name Akosua Takyiwaa reportedly raised the false alarm by calling the Assemblyman who then mobilized the late major Mahama killers who lynched and burnt him to death.
Late Mahama who was married with two kids was given a States’ burial on June 9, 2017, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra. A thanksgiving service was held at Light House Chapel International Quodesh North Kaneshie Accra on June 11, 2017.
Following is death, the deceased who was a Captain at the time of his death, was promoted to a Major by President Nana Akufo-Addo. This was following a recommendation from the Chief of Defence Staff Lt. Gen. O. B Akwa who requested that the slain Captain be promoted, as he was due for the same rank before his death.
President Nana Add0 has also promised that a monument will also be erected in late Mahama’s honor.
