Three major roads within the Accra Metropolis will be closed to vehicular traffic for hours on Monday, the Police in Accra have announced.
At exactly 11:00am, the roads from the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue towards Accra central, the Atta Mills Highway [from James Town towards Osu] and the Liberation Road towards the central business district, will be sealed off.
The temporary closure of the roads is to allow for what the Police termed as “ceremonial procession” by the President of Cote d’Ivoire, Alassane Dramane Ouattara will be on a State visit to Ghana Monday.
The roads will be re-opened after the procession, the Police said in a statement Sunday.
The closure is set to worsen traffic congestion in the metropolis, especially around the Kanda Highway area where the Police are advising motorists from the Achimota, Madina, Legon and Airport areas to use as alternative routes to the central business district.
Those from the Madina, Legon and Airport areas using the Liberation road will be made to turn right at the 37 Hospital Roudabout to Kaokudi through the Kanda Highway to link up on the Barnes Road to Accra central.
Motorists from the Achimota enclave heading to Accra central will be diverted to the Dzorwulu area on the Obasanjo Highway through the Kanda Highway and link up on the Barnes Road.
