295 people were killed in road accidents in the Brong Ahafo Region in 2016.
Road clashes continue to claim lives in the Brong Ahafo Region as it increased by 27 per cent in 2016.
In 2015, the region recorded 233 deaths in road carnage.
Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kwame Tachie-Police, disclosed this at the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command’s end-of-year WASSA in Sunyani.
DCOP Tachie-Poku called for more education and collaboration from stakeholders to reduce the road carnage.
“Indiscipline on our roads by road users and other motorists are becoming alarming and stringent measures have to be taken to bring this unhealthy situation under control,” DCOP Tachie-Poku noted.
He further noted that the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, the Road Safety Commission and the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA) and other stakeholders were taking measures to reduce road crushes in the region.
He appreciated the continuous support of the 3BN in the joint police-military patrol on the Kintampo-Tamale highway which has reduced numerous armed robbery cases on that stretch.
