Two suspects who were freed from Police custody when some youth in Somanya attacked and vandalized a Police station in the area, have reported themselves back to the Police.
The two suspects are among four others who escaped from the Somanya police cells on Monday, after the youth besieged the police station demanding the release of one Jones Adamtey Dendenden, who was alleged to have masterminded a demonstration and an attack on the Electricity Company of Ghana office in the area last week Friday.
The two suspects, Kwesi Danso and Nicholas Tetteh, were on remand for defrauding and stealing respectively.
The Eastern Regional Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the latest development to Citi News, said the police is still on a manhunt for the other two suspects.
“The four suspects who were aided to escape, two of them have reported themselves. One of them reported themselves on Monday, and the other reported on Tuesday. Those two suspects, one was already facing a court case and was actually on remand for defrauding on false pretense, and the other was being investigated for stealing. We are looking for the two others who are still on the run.”
Hundreds of angry youth on Monday evening besieged the Somanya Police station, and freed four suspected criminals who were in police custody. They succored in burning down a police vehicle and vandalizing other materials at the station.
Their action saw many officers around the station, fleeing for their lives.
Their action was sparked by the arrest of a resident, an Assembly Member, who is accused of masterminding an earlier violent demonstration against the ECG over high bills.
