Two of five armed robbers, who engaged the Manso Nkwanta police in a shoot-out on Monday 20th June, 2017 have been gunned down.
The remaining three, sensing danger, abandoned their operation, and took to their heels. They have since been declared wanted.
Briefing a cross-section of journalists in Kumasi, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, said they had intelligence that the armed robbers had planned to attack a gold dealer at Manso Nkwanta on the Agyagyekrom-Asuadei road.
Armed with this information, the police officer laid ambush at the spot that the robbers had planned to carry out their operation.
The five, he said, emerged with two of them wielding pump action guns and a locally manufactured pistol waiting for the victims to approach.
Two of the suspects immediately shot into the vehicle of the victim when they saw him approaching the said spot but missed him narrowly.
ACP Ampofo Duku continued that the suspects, noticing the police, started shooting into their direction but could not get any of them.
This, he noted, made them to return fire in same direction resulting in the instant death of two of the suspects.
The remaining three managed to escape, while the bodies of two of their accomplices who were killed in the shoot-out, have been deposited at the Agroyesum Hospital morgue for identification.
He said a locally made pistol, a BB cartridge, and a dagger knife were retrieved on the two dead robbers who are between the ages of 30 and 35 years.
