The police in Ashanti Region have arrested nine suspects including a 12-year-old boy in connection with the murder of the late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama.
Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Juliana Obeng, who confirmed the arrest to TV3, said the boy was arrested at Manso Nkwanta, the capital of the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region on Saturday.
The suspects also included six males and three females, she said.
The rest were arrested at Manso Konuase and Mannso Nkran in the same district.
It is not clear the role the 12-year-old boy played in the murder of the late captain, but ASP Juliana Obeng said the nine suspects will be handed over to the Central Regional Police Command for further investigations.
The late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama was with the 5th Infantry Battalion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra. He was the detachment commander of the Ghana Armed Forces undertaking operational duties in the Upper Denkyira West District in the Central Region.
He was lynched by a mob at Denkyira-Obuasi on May 29, 2017 while jogging. Residents mistook him for an armed robber after a woman he bought snails from saw a pistol on him and raised an alarm leading to the unfortunate incident.
The late M. A. Mahama would be buried on June 9, 2017 at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
