Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel believes that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy will see that his life has changed ‘forever’ after the Foxes’ remarkable Premier League title win.
Schmeichel, speaking to Goal ahead of the EE Wembley Cup, suggested that becoming a Premier League champion will mean more is expected of the England international and will result in more media attention on his family.
“I said, as soon as they’d clinched the title, ‘your life has changed forever now’. People will see you in a different light now. People will approach you very, very differently now and people will ask more of you,” the former Denmark international said.
“And he’s getting to terms with that now. You see someone like Jamie Vardy, either him or his family are in the media everyday and if you go back 12 months, no-one hardly knew who Jamie Vardy was.”
Schmeichel also revealed his fraught emotions when watching Leicester’s Premier League run in last season, admitting that seeing his son Kasper Schmeichel crowned a Premier League winner was ‘much better’ than any personal triumphs.
“The whole run in was something that I really, really enjoyed as a footballer. But when its your son, the whole run in, you can’t do anything about it,” he said.
“I was very, very nervous and I was on edge the whole time. It was much better for me when he won it than when I won it.”
