“You know what is amazing about the Undertaker? A man that surrounds himself with all the darkness sheds so much lightness in people all over the world.”
After performing 27 years in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Mark Calaway aka Undertaker seemingly retired from in-ring competition. A Hall of Famer and one of the greatest performers to grace the sports-entertainment industry, his legacy will never be forgotten.
Undertaker made a strong impression since he made his debut at Survivor Series 1990 as a mystery partner in the “Million Dollar Team”. He eliminated three out of the total five members from the opposing team, two of them being Hall of Famers.
Undertaker was the “reliable man” in the company. The company would always rely on him when they wanted to try out something new.
The Deadman, being the gentleman that he is, would never back down from trying out new things whether it be helping the industry promote new superstars or matches.
He always gave moments that left us in awe. Several of them included the brutal Hell in a Cell match against Mankind, buried alive matches, inferno matches and a singles match in which he faced him i.e. Undertaker vs Undertaker.
Several of his most popular feuds included with his brother Hulk Hogan, Kane, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Triple H and Vince McMahon.
The unique aspect in Undertaker’s career was that he proved his mettle in all different gimmicks he portrayed. Whether it was a macabre entity, the bike-riding “American Bad-Ass” or the “Lord of Darkness” leading the “Ministry of Darkness”, Undertaker has wrestled with his heart and made the fans root for him whether he was a babyface or a heel.
Undertaker became seven-time WWE/WWF world champion, one-time WWF Hardcore Championship. He was also a seven-time tag team champion with the likes of his brother Kane, Big Show, The Rock and Stone Cold. He was the first man to win the Royal Rumble as the 30th entrant. He also won the Slammy Awards 12 times.
This just proves his dominance in the company.
His arsenal of maneuvers and finishing moves speak for themselves. The trademark Chokeslam, Hell’s Gate and Tombstone speak are classic and can be easily identified. He could fight great matches with anyone in the company. His move set is highly effective and worked to his advantage. With a weapon, he became twice as dangerous as he was.
He is considered to be one of the fewest WWE superstars who has ever injured other stars in real life with his maneuvers.
It can be said that Undertaker is the greatest product of the WWE. The sight of him leaving his coat, gloves and hat in the ring and walking the ramp for possibly the last time will be remembered by WWE fans, including myself, for years to come.
He is a legend who will never be forgotten and his memories will be cherished forever. Thank You Undertaker for what you did and the magnificent career.
