One day after the Kenyan National Olympics Committee was disbanded because of alleged mismanagement, police on Friday arrested the man who served as secretary general of the committee.
Francis K Paul was arrested after a search of his home by investigators who have been probing the alleged mismanagement of Kenya’s participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero.
Police said the search led to the recovery of a batch of uniforms supplied by Nike but not distributed to the athletes who took part in the Olympics, which ended on Sunday.
Sports Minister Hassan Wario said on Thursday in disbanding the committee that the mismanagement included “accommodation and travel mishaps, mishandling of the accreditation of the list of participants to the provision of kits that never reached the athletes.”
The Kenyan Olympic team won 13 medals at the Rio games, which were the most successful ever for the country.
