Chelsea captain John Terry could join Manchester United if he does not get more games for the Blues, says his former first-team coach, Ray Wilkins.
The ex-England skipper has struggled to regain his place in Antonio Conte’s team after coming back from an ankle ligament injury suffered against Swansea City in September.
And despite reported interest from several Chinese Super League clubs, Wilkins, who made over 300 appearances combined for both clubs, believes that Terry’s next destination is more likely to be a bit closer to home – with his old boss, Jose Mourinho, potentially interested in a reunion.
“I couldn’t agree more [that Terry will snub a move to China],” he told talkSPORT. “I don’t think China will be on John’s radar.
“What about Old Trafford? He’s not playing for Chelsea but I think he still has plenty to offer. There will be someone out there who would love to have him.”
It looked as though Terry would leave Chelsea last summer after talks over a new contract no longer appeared likely but, to some surprise, in May the club legend agreed a deal to stay until the end of the 2016-17 season.
But with Conte switching to a more fluid three-man defence, it may be that the centre-back’s trophy-filled era at Chelsea could finally be coming to an end.
