The family of Nigerian journalist Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr has said it is “devastated” after he died of a stroke in London yesterday at the age of 47.
In a statement, the family said:
It is with great sadness that we announce that Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr passed away suddenly on October 18th 2016 following a stroke. He was 47. His family are devastated and request privacy at this difficult time. Funeral announcements will be made at a later date.” He was the son of prominent Nigerian activist Ken Sarow-Wiwa who was hanged by Nigeria’s then-military regime in 1995.
Saro-Wiwa JR published a memoir In the Shadow of a Saint: a Son’s Journey to Understand his Father’s Legacy.
A review of it in the UK-based Guardian newspaper in 2002 years said he spent 26 years running away from his father’s struggle.
In the Shadow of a Saint tells how he learnt to accept his inheritance, it added.
