The French forward has become something of a forgotten man, with his last competitive appearance coming almost 12 months ago for Charlton
Arsenal could have been forgiven for forgetting that Yaya Sanogo existed, with the French striker having drifted a long way off the radar.
Handed a competitive debut in August 2013, shortly after being signed from Auxerre, the 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact in English football.
After making his bow for the Gunners, he would net just two goals in all competitions over the course of the next two-and-a-half years – with only one of those coming for Arsenal.
Loan spells at Crystal Palace, Ajax and Charlton have failed to rekindle his spark, with a hat-trick for the Addicks on February 2016 as good as things have got.
Sanogo has, however, offered a timely reminder to Arsene Wenger of his talents with a 19-minute hat-trick for Arsenal’s Under-23 side in a meeting with Reading.
News of his re-emergence has come as a welcome surprise to some Arsenal supporters, with the club sweating on the future of some key forwards.
Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud have all been linked with imminent exits, leading to some tongue-in-cheek suggestions from fans regarding Sanogo’s future involvement.
Arsenal are back in Premier League action on Monday evening with an away clash against London rivals Crystal Palace.
