Lovers of reggae music in Nigeria are about to witness a rebirth of the genre as plans have been concluded to rekindle the music careers of two leading reggae stars in the country, Ras Kimono and Righteous Man.
The duo ruled the airwaves in the 80s and early 90s, before disappearing into thin air.
However, a top businessman, and patron of Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Lagos State chapter, Mr Joe Ijhalo is taking it upon himself to give the diminishing careers of these reggae legends a big boost once again.
In a chat with SB, Ijhalo who is popularly known as PJ, said, he’s ready to shell out millions of naira to salvage the duo’s careers. He disclosed that in the next couple of weeks, he will be launching a record label which will be managed by Ras Kimono and Righteous Man. “ In one or two weeks from now, I will be launching a record label, where I want to relaunch the careers of ‘Under Pressure’ crooner and Righteousman.
They will also use the platform to discover and groom budding reggae artistes in the country,” Ijhalo hinted.
According to Ijhalo, who from Isan, Edo State, he’s not embarking on this project because of what he would gain materially, but as a way of signalling the rebirth of reggae music in Nigeria. is a music artist whose genre of expression tends towards reggae.
Kimono and Righteous Man are among the most popular reggae stars that have ever graced the Nigerian music scene.
While Kimono dominated the airwaves with his rich repertoire which include What’s Gwan and Run F’ Cover, Righteous Man became popular with his kind of gospel music which tended towards reggae.
