Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has claimed that current World Boxing Organisation (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will definitely fight again and has given the rematch with Floyd Mayweather a 75% chance of taking place in the near future.
The Filipino came out of retirement to claim a unanimous point decision win over Jessie Vargas at the Thomas & Mack Centre in Las Vegas on 6 November. Pacquiao’s claim of being open to a rematch along with the presence of Mayweather at ringside has given rise to speculation of a potential rematch between the boxing legends.
“Floyd came to the fight and he was very friendly with Todd du Boef (Top Rank president) and some of our staff. Now that doesn’t mean that the fight will happen, but if it does, it won’t take a long time to make because the animosity that was there before the first fight is gone. There’s no more animosity between the camps”, Arum said, as quoted by ESPN.
“It was so tense last time, but it won’t be that way because everyone can get along. Like everyone else, I’m guessing there will be a rematch. He did come to the fight. I give it 75 percent. Do I know it’s gonna happen? No. Do I know if Floyd wants the fight? No. I know nothing more than the public knows at this point and what I observed.”
The fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao termed as the “Fight of the Century” broke all pay-per view records with the duo becoming the only fighters in history to earn nine figures for a single night’s work.
The American boxer came out on top at the MGM Grand Arena beating the Filipino via an unanimous 118-110, 116-112, 116-112 decision.
