Marquinhos has challenged Paris Saint-Germain to play at a level they have never before achieved in order to beat Barcelona in the Champions League.
After finishing second behind Arsenal in Group A, the Ligue 1 champions have been pitted against the Spaniards, who have knocked them out of the competition in two of the last four years.
Although PSG, who lie second in Ligue 1, impressed in beating Bordeaux 3-0 on Friday, the Brazil international centre-back is aware their level needs to be raised a notch.
“We must play the match of our lives,” he told reporters. “These matches are decided on details, so we’ll have to be at 110 per cent – we can’t make mistakes. The opposition have a team whose players can make the difference.
“We know Barcelona are a team of a very high level. We’ll do everything we can to beat them.”
The centre-back is liable to come up against Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez, and is aware of the challenge the trio pose.
“For us defenders, it’s a big test,” he admitted.
Edinson Cavani is a striker on fire for PSG, with the Uruguayan having netted twice against Bordeaux thanks to a couple of fine volleys, but his team-mate denies they are a one-man side.
“He’s in great form,” Marquinhos added. “But it’s the collective that makes the difference.
“If you look today in comparison to the last match, there were many changes. But the level of the team did not change, which is very good for what’s to come.”
