The English striker offers more to the collective team effort at Old Trafford than the Swedish talisman and is ‘here to stay’
Manchester United would score more goals as a team with Marcus Rashford than they would with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to Michael Owen.
Rashford’s free kick was the difference for the Red Devils on Thursday as they boosted their chances of reaching the Europa League final with a slender away win over Celta Vigo.
Rash the new king for Man Utd
It was the 19-year-old’s 10th goal in all competitions this season and in the absence of Ibrahimovic, Owen believes he is beginning to show his worth to Jose Mourinho’s side.
“I think if you ask his team-mates, they would probably prefer to play with Rashford up-front,” the former Man United striker said on BT Sport.
“He just gives them options. Zlatan will always score a few more goals than Rashford if they both started every week together.
“But I think the team will score a lot more with Rashford in the team (on his own).
“The over-riding factor is that I think Rashford’s here to stay.”
Following their victory over Celta, United take on Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday as they aim to finish as high as possible in the division.
Mourinho’s men will then attempt to ensure their place in the Europa League final when they contest the second leg of the semi-final next Thursday.
