The defender is expected in court today for assaulting his girlfriend.
Atletico Madrid centre-back Lucas Hernandez has been detained in custody over claims that he assaulted his girlfriend, Spanish police have confirmed.
The 20-year-old was arrested at 2:30am local time on Friday morning after a female was hospitalised, although her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Hernandez, a France Under-21 international, is expected in court in Majadahonda – a district northwest of Madrid – on Friday for a hearing and accused of an offence of gender violence.
Reports in Spain suggest his partner is yet to file a complaint as she is waiting to consult a lawyer.
Should the judge consider a serious crime to have been committed, a criminal proceeding could begin against the player, while a restraining order could be placed on the Marseille-born man.
Hernandez has played 11 times for Atletico so far this season, having made his debut for the capital club in the Copa del Rey against L’Hospitalet in December 2014.
His brother, Theo, a left-back, is also on the books of the Vicente Calderon, but is currently on loan at Alaves.
Atletico Madrid are yet to comment on the incident.
