The American fullback earned the distinction after helping the Championship squad narrowly avoid relegation
American defender Eric Lichaj has been named Nottingham Forest’s Player of the Season, the Championship side announced Wednesday.

The 28-year-old received more than 40 percent of the vote from Forest supporters to earn the award.
Lichaj scored two goals while making 45 appearances in all competitions as Forest went 14-23-9 to avoid relegation on goal differential.
“I don’t know if I was well deserved of it — it’s been a difficult season,” Lichaj said on the club’s website. “But I definitely do appreciate it.”
Lichaj has made 11 appearances for the U. S. national team but just one since the end of 2013. U.S. coach Bruce Arena had cited Lichaj as a candidate for a call-up before the versatile defender sat out March’s World Cup qualifiers because of injury.
