Roy Keane has slammed Paul Pogba after Manchester United’s win over Saint-Etienne, insisting his show of brotherly love with sibling Florentin is a damning indictment on the “modern player.”
The Pogba brothers played against other for the first time in the Europa League encounter on Thursday night.
And though Keane’s former side United emerged victorious, winning 3-0 by virtue of a Zlatan Ibrahimovic hat-trick, the former firebrand midfielder was not impressed with the world’s most expensive footballer.
When asked on ITV if he was bothered by the show of affection between the brothers Pogba, Keane said he was, then elaborated.
“The boy, Pogba, he’s a bit of a free spirit, a bit of a character. But I think it was a little bit over the top tonight – before the game and at half-time.
“They’ve spoken more tonight than I have to any of my brothers [Keane has three siblings; Denis, Pat and Johnson] in the last five years.
“It’s all a bit strange. I think when the game started they were focused on the game.
“But all this stuff before and after the game, a lot of nonsense – but that’s the modern player I’m afraid.”
United face Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup on Sunday, prior to the second leg against Saint-Etienne in France next week.
