Operatives of the Lagos state police command have apprehended a Ghanaian identified as Enyolam Believe, for allegedly conniving with her friend, Agatha Aigbomiam to kidnap her sister’s daughter in Lagos.
According to the Punch, the 43-year old woman was said to have connived with one of Aigbomiam to kidnap their 8-year old victim on her way to school and was taken to Ogun state by the accomplice on Tuesday, September 20.
According to sources who witnessed the kidnap, the victim had raised an alarm which drew the attention of the residents, leading to the arrest of the two suspects. Meanwhile, Believe and the victim’s mother had been in search of the victim for some days before they involved the police, this move reportedly led to the arrest of the suspects.
At the point of interrogation, Believe confessed that she kidnapped her niece so as to make the sum of N30,000 from her sister, adding that she needed the money badly. “I have my own children. I needed money badly that time and I thought of different ideas, which didn’t work. So, I decided to kidnap my sister’s daughter and demand N30,000 ransom from her. I involved my friend because I didn’t want to be the one to take the girl from school.
I don’t know what came over me,” she said.
Confirming their arrest, the commissioner of police in the state, Fatai Owoseni advised parents and guardians to be vigilant over their children, stressing that the arrested suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of investigation.
Police operatives in Kano state recently apprehended three housewives in connection with the attempted murder of a girl in Gayawa village. The suspects were arrested in the village on Sunday, September 25, after the father of the girl complained to the police.
