Things have not been going well for the Montreal Impact and that frustration may have boiled over for star Didier Drogba Saturday evening.
The Impact suffered a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls and slumped to their third loss in four games. Drogba, who has scored twice over that span, was held off the scoreboard Saturday and managed just one shot in the contest.
Then after the game, Drogba got into a prolonged shouting match with a pair of Red Bull supporters with security having to restrain all parties.
Drogba later spoke about the incident to TVA Sports in Montreal.
“There were two fans who were showing their enthusiasm a little too much,” Drogba said. “They crossed the line a bit, that’s all.”
With the loss, Montreal remains in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, but holds just a one-point advantage on D. C. United in sixth place and two points on the New England Revolution in seventh.
