Not all therapy sessions take place on a couch in an office. Over the last few days, Drew Barrymore took to social media to spotlight #PeopleILove — from her daughters to her BFFs like Cameron Diaz — and “reflect on things that truly make me happy.”
On Sunday night, Barrymore, who recently finalized her divorce from third husband Will Kopelman, summed up the exercise, which saw her traveling down memory lane. Along with a photo of girls Olive, 4, and Frankie, 2, the 41-year-old actress wrote that she was thinking “about people and moments that make life make sense to me. That make life amazing. That motivate me to be my best self.” Doing it made her “feel so lucky,” she noted. “And after just living the last few days in all things positive, it was good for me to reflect on things that truly make me happy.”
The photos she shared were flashbacks of the peoples who are positives in her life. That included some of her famous friends, including Diaz, whom she has described as being like a “sister” to her, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Nicole Richie on a cold weather adventure. The photos is great because they all seem so relaxed and non-Hollywood. There’s not a lot of makeup, but you can feel there is a lot of love.
“Hold onto those you love and climb a mountain together,” she wrote. “The women in my life are doers. That can be anything from life, work and physical capability. Zest if you will. I follow my friends. And when I am most in need, I hold on tighter. But it is when they need me… I know I have done something right. To earn their trust. Love your fiends. Share kindness. Hold onto moments and most of all… MAKE MORE PLANS!!!!!!!!!”
Here is her super #girlsquad in a warmer environment. For the record, Drew is the “only one in shorts.”
Drew shared a second photo of Diaz from their Charlie’s Angels days (along with co-star Lucy Liu). “I want to live in this forever…” she captioned the premiere pic from 2003.
Old friends also made the cut, including her business partner Nancy Juvonen and her husband, Jimmy Fallon, from a glam night out at the Emmys in 2009. Barrymore has credited Juvonen, her partner in Flower Films, for her blunt advice on relationships.
Her ex-husband Kopelman’s family, including his dad Arie and mom Coco, also made the cut. She referred to them as her “family” and noted she felt “safe” in their company.
And her daughter Frankie got her own call out. Drew wrote, “This moment makes the whole world fall away for me.”
Also getting mentions? The cast of the Netflix show she’s been working on, Santa Clarita Diet. She note that not only did she get to work with them, she got to “laugh with” them as well.
And her dad, John Barrymore, who passed away in 2004. (Sorry, Jaid! Her estranged mother didn’t make the list.)
Barrymore, whose divorce was finalized in August, also noted in her online therapy session that she looks “so forward to healing.”
