Chelsea defender David Luiz has described his quest to win a first Premier League title as “an obsession”.
And the Brazil defender has praised Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte’s “meticulous” approach which sees the Blues within nine points of the trophy.
Luiz made a surprise return to Stamford Bridge last summer, two years after switching to Paris St Germain for £50million.
The 30-year-old has thrived as Chelsea have moved four points clear of Tottenham with four Premier League games to go.
Luiz, who won the Champions League and Europa League during his first spell from January 2011 to June 2014, told FourFourTwo: “I had already won several titles with Chelsea, played my part in a beautiful period in the club’s history and made so many friends. I thought it was time to move on, so I had no regrets. But things change quickly in football.
“Winning the Premier League has always been an obsession of mine. This is one of the toughest competitions in the world. We’ve worked hard to make this dream come true.”
Former Italy and Juventus boss Conte is in his first season at Chelsea and has taken his side towards a possible double, with Arsenal their FA Cup final opponents on May 27.
Luiz added: “He’s extremely meticulous. There isn’t a tiny detail he isn’t aware of.
“He’s the type of guy who sees things most people wouldn’t. In training he creates situations that he thinks could occur during the upcoming games – and it makes all the difference.
“He also knows how to motivate us and gives confidence to the whole squad.
“We all know that he trusts in our ability and one of his best qualities is that he treats everyone equally.”
Luiz had to be replaced by Nathan Ake late in the win at Everton last Sunday, but has until Monday, May 8 to prove his fitness for the Blues’ next match with Middlesbrough.
