It’s never nice as a footballer to be sent off, but it’s even worse when it involves the concession of a penalty in the last minute with the game in the balance. Just ask Newport County’s Mitch Rose, brother of Tottenham and England defender Danny.
The Welsh outfit find themselves rooted to the bottom of League Two and it looked like they might be on course to pick up a rare victory after an hour at The Abbey Stadium as they led their hosts 2-0 thanks to a Ryan Bird double.
However, the Us roared into life in the final half hour, hauling level through Barry Corr and Leon Legge. Then Rose conceded a penalty in the last minute, earning a red card for his foul.
The 22-year-old could not contain his anger as the card was flashed, slapping it clean out of the official’s hand before storming off indignantly.

“The opposition dug-out were bemused by the awarding of the penalty,” Newport manager Graham Westley told the BBC after the game.
“Even the implementation of the rules were wrong, in my view. I thought double jeopardy had gone out of the game and the red card was unnecessary. Nobody on their side was appealing for a penalty. They wanted a corner. There were bizarre decisions all afternoon.”
Regardless of the rights and wrongs, perhaps Danny Rose could sit his younger brother down for a lesson in anger management!
