Ahmad Ahmad’s victory as the new CAF President was accepted with heavy jubilation and merry making from fans and sympathizers who graced the elections held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar beat the incumbent Issa Hayatou to become the next CAF president after Thursday’s elections.
Ahmad Ahmad polled 34 votes to beat long serving president Issa Hayatou, who polled 20 votes.
Hayatou has been CAF president for 29 years and was seeking his eighth term in office. In 2002, he ran for the FIFA presidency but was defeated by Sepp Blatter.
