The Gabon international failed to find the net to add to his five goals already scored this season
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang failed to inspire Borussia Dortmund as they suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
The Gabon international failed to find the net to add to his five goals already scored this season, while his rival Javier Hernandez scored for the third consecutive game as he helped Leverkusen register their first home win over Dortmund since May 2007.
Both Chicharito and Aubameyang have scored seven goals in their last ten matches in all competitions, for their respective clubs.
The defeat means Thomas Tuchel’s men missed out on a chance to move within a point of Bayern Munich—who were held to a 1-1 draw earlier—in the Bundesliga standings.
With Robert Lewandowski also failing to find the net earlier on the day in Bayern’s 1-1 draw against FC Cologne, it leaves Aubameyang, Chicharito and Lewandowski equal on five goals apiece heading into the international recess.
Yet on the evidence of Saturday’s showing, it’s the Mexican who will pull away from his rival in the scoring stakes!
Aubameyang, who is his country’s captain, will be hoping to have his goalscoring boots on for Gabon’s 2018 World Cup Qualifying opener against Morocco on Monday as the Panthers seek a maiden spot at the global showpiece.
Lewandowski will also lead Poland in their World Cup qualifier next weekend, while Chicharito’s Mexico will play friendlies against New Zealand and Panama respectively.
