After months of speculations about whether or not Ben Affleck will direct his standalone Batman movie, the actor confirms that he won’t direct it. Affleck is still playing the superhero in “The Batman“. However, Affleck decides to hand over the directing job to a new director as he needs to focus on his role as the Caped Crusader.
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions,” Affleck says in a statement obtained by Variety. “Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film.”
Affleck adds, “I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”
Warner Bros. respects Affleck’s decision and “remains committed to working with him to bring a standalone Batman picture to life.”
Thus, Affleck and Warner Bros. will start searching for a new a director. Matt Reeves from “War for the Planet of the Apes” is reportedly one of the names in the shortlist.
Affleck will star opposite Joe Manganiello who will play Deathstroke in “The Batman”. The movie’s release date hasn’t been set yet.
In the meantime, Affleck’s Batman is appearing in another DC movie “Justice League”. Other “Justice League” cast members include Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Willem Dafoe (Nuidis Vulko) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor). “Justice League” is scheduled to hit U. S. theaters on November 17.
