A 34-year-old female spectator watching a Major League Baseball game in St. Louis on Tuesday was grazed by a stray bullet while inside the ballpark, police said Wednesday.
The incident took place during a 2-1 Cardinals victory over Milwaukee at Busch Stadium when, police said, a woman felt pain in her arm and a bullet was later located near her seat.
“We are aware of an incident last night in which a fan reported being struck by a stray bullet that presumably originated from outside of the stadium,” the Cardinals said in a statement Wednesday.
“The fan was treated for an abrasion and a bruise on her arm at First Aid and released. She was interviewed by police who are investigating the matter.
“There is nothing more important than the safety of our fans and the Cardinals are grateful that no one was seriously injured.”
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that police received a call to report gunshots being fired less than a mile from the stadium moments before the woman was struck, police telling the newspaper that someone shooting into the air might have launched the bullet that struck the spectator.
