Jack Sock of the United States serves against Kei Nishikori of Japan in their quarter final match during day twelve of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on March 17, 2017 in Indian Wells, California
American Jack Sock ousted fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 on Friday to book an Indian Wells Masters semi-final showdown with 18-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer.
Sock, at a career-high ranking of 18th in the world after titles in Auckland and Delray Beach this year, notched his first career victory over a top-five player as he toppled the fifth-ranked former US Open finalist from Japan.
In his first Indian Wells semi-final Sock will take on four-time champion Federer, who advanced via walkover when scheduled opponent Nick Kyrgios pulled out because of illness.
