Post-Concussion Headaches Sideline Yankees’ Ellsbury

The New York Yankees shut down Jacoby Ellsbury on Saturday after the center fielder’s post-concussion headache’s flared up again.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said before Saturday’s game in Toronto that Ellsbury will cease all athletic activity and visit a neurologist when the team returns to New York.

“Sometimes it’s tough when you have a concussion,” Girardi said. “You have to be careful. You have to do the right thing. I know he’s frustrated. He wants to come back.”

Ellsbury suffered a concussion on May 24 when his head banged against the center field wall at Yankee Stadium. He was put on the disabled list with a concussion and neck sprain.

Ellsbury was set to take batting practice on Friday, but the headaches returned.

The 33-year-old is batting .281 with four home runs, 14 runs-batted-in and eight stolen bases in 39 games.
