Cyle Larin scored the game-winner in the first minute of injury time on Saturday as Orlando City stayed perfect in their new stadium with 2-1 Major League Soccer win over the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Canadian international Larin was able to maneuver into position on a corner and volley an off-balance effort into the top of the net.
He sealed Orlando’s fourth one-goal home win in as many matches at their new 25,000 capacity stadium that opened in March.
It had looked as if the Galaxy would come away with a point after winger Romain Alessandrini produced a superb equalizer in the 83rd minute.
Jermaine Jones’s long ball found Alessandrini in the attacking third. Alessandrini went wide to elude two Orlando defenders and fired a low blast between diving Orlando keeper Joe Bendick and his left post.
Orlando had taken a 1-0 lead on Will Johnson’s goal in the ninth minute as the Galaxy were trying to clear their lines following an Orlando corner kick.
Larin became the first striker to score 35 MLS goals before his 22nd birthday.
“LA’s a great team and they had a spell where they started playing and got comfortable, but we got our chance in the 90th minute and we finished it,” he said.
“I think this year the mentality of the team is a lot different,” Larin added. “We work for each other more and we don´t give up on any plays. We are always in the game and we keep fighting even if we are losing. We don’t stop.”
The weekend’s action opened on Friday, when former Barcelona striker David Villa’s spectacular goal from 53 yards out sealed New York City FC’s 2-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Nemanja Nikolic scored two goals and Bastian Schweinsteiger added another as the Chicago Fire beat a short-handed New England Revolution 3-0.
Schweinsteiger, the former Germany, Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder who made his MLS debut this month, put the Fire up just before halftime with a sharply angled shot.
Nikolic doubled the lead two minutes into the second half and added a third goal, his fourth of the season, after a great build up from Schweinsteiger and David Accam.
The Revolution were reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute when Je-Vaughn Watson was shown a second yellow card in six minutes.
