World number one Dustin Johnson was improving Thursday after suffering a back injury and was set to test his swing before deciding about playing in the Masters, his team said.
The reigning US Open champion was moving and hopeful of making his 2:03 pm (1803 GMT) start time at Augusta National despite a serious fall on stairs Wednesday at his rented home in Augusta, his team said.
Johnson, a runaway favorite in the year’s first major golf championship after winning his past three starts, underwent treatment overnight to avoid back stiffness and spasms as well as ease the lower left back pain he felt after the stumble.
