The campaign team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared itself victors in the 2016 elections, urging president John Mahama to concede defeat. At a hurriedly addressed press conference at the NPP headquarters, the national campaign chairman, Peter Mac Manu said after tabulating 80 percent of polling station results, the NPP was ahead with 4.6 million votes (54.91 percent) and President Mahama with 43.38 percent (3.6 million).
The governing NDC had earlier issued a press statement calling for calm from its supporters as results streamed in across the country.
