A head teacher has been arrested by police in Keta in the Volta Region for swindling two hundred and ninety people in a police recruitment scam. Elias Bida who heads a basic school in Keta took over GHC150,000 from the prospective police recruits.
In its bid to reduce police recruitment scams, the Ghana Police Service this year began selling forms to prospective recruits at banks between May 11 and May 31, 2016.
The prospective recruits after purchasing the forms are required to register online to reduce direct human involvement in the process.
Despite these measures, Elias Bida together with ‘some people in very high positions’ according to the police, defrauded the victims of the amount.
Speaking to GhanaStar.com new partner Francis Abban on the Pulse on the Joy news channel on Multi-TV, Keta Police Commander Superintendent Jordan Quaye said the suspect told the police he sent the money he collected from the victims to his accomplices via Mobile Money.
Superintendent Jordan Quaye assured they will pursue the accomplices of the suspect and retrieve the monies.
