Today, the 12th of August is International Youth Day. The day which is a product of the United Nations’ resolution 54/120 is designated to celebrate the fledgling generation and highlight the challenges they face.
It also serves to remind the youth all over the world that their voice is still relevant and must be heard. For the caretakers, mentors and guardians of the next generation, it is a clarion call to safeguard the existence and thriving of the human race by appreciating and empowering the youth
This year’s theme is “Youth and Mental Health”. The theme is aimed at creating greater public awareness about the existence of mental illness among the youth and the growing discrimination and stigmatization of those affected by it.
For the Ghanaian youth, these times are not the most pleasant to live in. There is uncertainty about the future of Ghana’s young economy in the 4th Republic, attaining a quality education appears to be a preserve of the rich, and the prospect of climbing up the social ladder appears obsolete.
Although for many young Ghanaian’s it is difficult to fathom the idea that their present situation is not an austere life sentence, there is always hope and light at the end of the proverbial tunnel.
Despite the risk of sounding cliché, we at The Accra Report believe that with integrity, perseverance, faith, and diligence all present obstacles will some day become stepping stones to greatness.
We believe in the Ghanaian youth and in youth all over the world. In the next generation resides great potential awaiting to be unleashed.
Edem’s “Ghetto Arise” is a reflection of the struggle of Ghana’s youthful 99%. However, as the song boldly relays, there is always a reason to cling to hope for through adversity fortitude and a winning spirit is forged.
Let us keep the Ghanaian hope alive and in the words of Edem (Ayigbe Edem)
“Alavanyo” :-All will be well
