Ghana’s hip life trio, 4X4, say there is nothing wrong for a musician to support any political party, noting they are ready to endorse any party that is willing to pay them for that services.
“We don’t know why people think musicians shouldn’t support political parties as we are all citizens of Ghana…We will endorse if we get paid,” they said in an interview with Berla Mundi onLive 91.9 FM.
Some Ghanaian musicians in the previous elections openly declared support for some political parties and their candidates. Daddy Lumba, A- Plus, Kwabena Kwabena, Barima Sidney, Lucky Mensah and Philippa Baafi are some of the artistes who endorsed political parties and their candidates in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 general election.
Although some critics claimed the move was a bad one as it had the tendency for some of those artistes to lose followers but this the hip life group disagrees.
4X4 argued there is nothing wrong in endorsing a political party, noting it is all about business.
They said: “We are doing our jobs and all the people who are doing it all have their reasons but we are about business.
“We are in this country and we are citizens of this country and our vote count so if a politician approaches and asks me to sing for him it’s business,” the group said, adding “this is our field and if you want us to sing for you then we will because we are doing our job and it is a business thing”.
