Music producer Justice Oteng of Drum Lyne Studios known in showbiz circles as Wei Ye Oteng, has in an exclusive interview with citifmonline.com, described the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) as the pride of the Ghanaian music industry.
In the interview, he said even though the award scheme has issues and people complain about these issues, it gives credence to artistes’ works and enriches their brands.
“No matter how one thinks, VGMA is the pride of the music industry and the recognition it gives is something that turns one on and also endorses one’s work,” he said.
Wei Ye Oteng, who has been nominated for the Producer of the Year award, also has one of his works with Trigmatic, ‘Motromodwo,’ nominated in for Record of the Year, and he believes they are winning those two awards.
Speaking about what he would suggest be done to spruce up the VGMA, the versatile music producer indicated that he would suggest the organisers listen to the people on the streets and also and try as much as they can to reduce doubts about some of their activities.
“They should try to put their ears to the ground and listen to the people on the street and make our award as credible as they can. I know there are issues everywhere but they should try to minimise them,” Oteng intimated.
Justice Oteng has worked with top notch artistes in Ghana including Obrafuor for ‘Odasani,’ Trigmatic for ‘Wo Sika Nti’ and ‘Motromodwo,’ Sarkodie ft KK Fosu for ‘Warrior Song’ and Kofi B ft. Obrafuor for ‘Yeenom Nsa Wose Shirt.’
