We all the saw the evolution of Sarkodie, from his first hit to the international acclaim that has him recognized everywhere. He is not new to the ‘hustle’.
And neither are you, we suppose. But what happens, when one who has seen the hustle, and lived to through seemingly tries to ‘take advantage’ of upcoming creatives in the industry?
That is what Sarkodie seems to have found himself in, when Ghanaian creatives on the Twitter exploded over an ad calling for artistic people for his new project, without pay, except exposure. We know right?
The tweet that started it all:
Be part of my new video … Come promo your Art ???????? pic.twitter.com/OE5NDB8IyY— TheHighest (@sarkodie) January 24, 2017
And then all hell broke loose:
1. To be very honest
@sarkodie Chaley exposure no go pay for trosky saf o— Efo Edem (@EdemMini) January 24, 2017
2. The very hard, no sugar-coated truth
Tena h? na y? exposure. You’ll be driving an Exposure at 35 and the same Sarkodie will make hit songs that ridicules people like you— ?blutor (@Koo_The_Boy) January 24, 2017
3. There’s always that one supportive fan
Aah, but this is very simple
If u want exposure, come.
if it’s money don’t
Is this difficult to understand @sarkodie don’t mind dem— Shirley (@shirlsunshintao) January 24, 2017
4. Then the memes started
5. Hmm. No wonder the creatives were upset
Sarkodie is going to make money off that visuals but want to pay the people in it with “exposure”…— I’M BROKE (@JoeyXLVII) January 24, 2017
6. All we are saying
Exposure and pay are not mutually exclusive. Nobody’s asking for $10m dollars. Just give somtin small for the boys na nipa abr3.— Barry (@90sReject) January 24, 2017
7. We actually want to know, so we make some calculations
Lmao Sark dey charge how much for a show? 150K-200K? And he wants to pay in exposure. ‘Huh’ baako koraa y3 Sen?— Motherfucker Jones (@kofi_233) January 24, 2017
8. Really the most important question in this whole debacle
9. When the word ‘exposure’ becomes a trend on its own
As if me liking you is not enough exposure, you need me to do cute things too?
Naah https://t.co/UlwnvzHtmd— Joan of M. A.C (@enyonvm) January 24, 2017
10. We see what you did there
Didn’t Edem pay Sarkodie for his ‘art’ on that hit song that practically ‘exposed’ him to Ghana? Or he did it for free?????— Pablo Escoknack (@6Darlington) January 24, 2017
The rants are still ongoing on the social media platform, and now Sarkodie himself is even trending. So looks like the man himself with his own tweet got some more……exposure?
