I have seen outdoor events upon outdoor events but Stonebwoy’s peace concert at Ashiaman park tops them all this year.
This is open for debate though. The event which had several A-List artistes such as Sarkodie, Samini, Kwaw Kese, VVIP and other show stoppers including Dunsin, Donzy, Yaa Pono, Fancy Gadem etc saw the biggest crowd Accra has seen for an outdoor event so far this year.
Right from the top of the Tema-Ashaiman over pass, one could see ten thousands of heads jamming and partying.
You are justified to want to compare it to Shatta Wale’s After the Storm album launch, but if you were present at the Stonebwoy’s peace concert, you would understand and appreciate what I am talking about.
The show started at about 8pm with a tall list of underground artistes gracing the stage. After the underground artistes section which lasted for more than 3 hours, the main acts for the night started mounting the stage to dish out their peace messages and songs.
VVIP, Fancy Gadem, Dunsin, Yaa Pono, Kwaw Kese and Article Wan took to the stage one after the other to wow the crowd. Even when the rains came, not a single patron stepped away. The crowd stayed in the rain to enjoy themselves.
Then Sarkodie took to the stage to do his own thing. He used the opportunity to make way for his rap soldiers such as Donzy Piesie and the rest to have their fair share of the stage within his allotted time. Patrons couldn’t help it but to join in the energy that he put into his performance.
Samini also did what he is best known for – “mash up the show” in a grand style. Though the rains cut Dunsin’s performance short, they made an impact with the little time they had on stage. The accapella version of their latest banger – “f3f33f3” did the magic for them as the ladies jumped on it to sing it word for word.
The man for the event Stonebwoy finally got on stage and proved once more that he is a master on stage and on the mic. All the experience he gathered from touring around the globe came to play on stage. He sure did put out a master piece performance.
Stage was big enough to allow artistes to deliver their performance smoothly and lighting was also just enough to give a clear view of what was happening on stage. Sound even though I would say was ok, wasn’t enough to cater for the large crowd.
Security on the night was also perfect except for one or two unfair treatment metted out to patrons by the security at the gate leading to the back stage, and those officers managing the crowd right in front of the stage. The use of pepper spray by some officers on patrons nearly marred the whole event.
A section of the crowd got angry and started throwing items onto the stage. It took the timely intervention of MC King Lagazee and his CO Mcs to skillfuly calm the angry crowd.
Other top performers on the night include Criss Waddle, Medikal, DXD, Ijudah among others.
kudos to Stonebwoy and his management for putting up such a monster event to promote and Foster peace amongst the people of Ashaiman and it’s environs towards the up coming elections. Bhim to the world!!!
