Winner of the 2014 Vodafone Icons Remix Edition, Christian Owusu popularly known as Chris has disclosed that doing other genres of music apart from Gospel was his utmost challenge as a musician.
Speaking to Radio and Television Personality Award nominee and host of Kasapa Entertainment on Kasapa 102.5FM, Kojo Preko Dankwa, the award winning act revealed that during one of his performances at the Vodafone Icon Reality show, he was advised by one of the judges to do mainstream gospel instead of secular songs because he flopped woefully doing secular songs.
According to him, though fans and industry players attributed his personality to a highlife singer, he almost tried to adhere to their plea but nearly killed his career.
Chris added that “since I started doing mainstream gospel with support from my dad and other strong pillars in the industry, things seem to be on the right track for me. When something is not meant for you no matter how much you try, you may never succeed, I thank God I now know gospel is meant for me.”
The Promising Gospel act is out with his new single ‘Obrempong’.
Chris beat Titi and Alice to win the Vodafone Icons Remix Edition’s ultimate prize of a brand new Nissan Qashqui, a recording contract with one of the world’s biggest record label, Universal Music and cash prizes all valued at GHC100, 000 at the end of the 13 weeks competition.
