The Ghana Actors Guild (GAG), on 29th April, 2017 converged at the Centre for National Culture in Accra to elect new leaders to occupy some vacant positions in the guild’s leadership.
This was made necessary after the demise of the President of the guild, Reverend Eddie Coffie last year.
Prior to the election, many actors had been romoured to have expressed interest in the presidency. Abeiku Sagoe and Mikki-Osei Berko were among the common names mentioned.
While Abeiku had publicly declared his intention to run for the position, Mikki told Citi Showbiz that he was not interested in that post.
In the election, Abeiku Sagoe was beaten by Sam Fiscian who is now the new President for the Ghana Actors Guild. Popular actor Van Vicker is the Vice – President, with actress Kalsoum Sinare as the Welfare Officer. These newly elected officers have a one-year tenure.
Mr. Samuel Fiscian, aka Fish is an actor, writer, director and producer. He is the founder and director of Vision Theatre Company, the only surviving group at the Arts Centre after 22 years. As an actor, he has featured in countless stage, television and movie productions, winning the Ghana Union of Theatre Societies Best Actor award in 1997 among others. He has written and directed many stage, television and movie productions. He is currently the writer and director of the seven awards winning Cow & Chicken. Several stars have gone through his tutelage over the years.
Fiscian has been the voice of the voiceless in the Ghana Actors’ Guild for several years and dedication towards the Guild is undoubted.
For the past 3 years, he has been directing the re enactment of Ghana’s Independence and directed the 28th February crossroads shooting incident during the Ghana @ 60 celebrations. Being a man of many talents, Sammy Fiscian has been the coach of the Ghana Actors’ Guild, winning many games.
Fiscian’s comes to this role with deep knowledge and appreciation of the issues confronting the Guild. His honesty, humility and progressive nature makes him the preferred choice for Presidency of the Guild.
Mr. Samuel Fiscian who won by 338 votes out of 667 votes cast revealed to SeanCityGH that though he has lot of plans for the Guild , one of the main things he is going to focus on now, is to make sure he brings unity among the members of the Guild.
“I will bring everyone on board, both the screen actors and those who seems not to find the Guild Attractive, so we can all help to propagate our agenda,” he told SeancityGH
The Ghana Actors Guild has been devilled with a lot of challenges which have stalled its progress for the past years. It is therefore expected that the new leadership put their act together to give the group a face lift.
