What appears to be the sudden deaths of our celebrities in recent times has become a source of worry to many Ghanaians and one person who believes they need prayers to prevent such deaths is Reverend Owusu Bempah.
In 2016, the list of stars who have passed away are Bob Okala, Solomon Sampah, Nii Odoi Mensah, George Williams, Danny Nettey, Daasebre Gyamerah, Kofi Middleton Mends, Nkomode, Omanhene Pozo, George Forest and Isaac Yeboah.
The man of God who predicted a lot of deaths on December 31 last year is calling on the celebrities to gather at his church for serious prayers to prevent more deaths from occurring.
“The need has come for some stars to gather every month at my church, Glorious Word Ministry International for serious prayers because the deaths are not natural. We cannot have about ten celebrities dying within a year. There is more to it than what we are seeing and the time to pray is now,” Rev. Owusu Bempah told Agyemang, host of Total Entertainment on Rainbow Radio last Saturday.
According to him, he was not sure which celebrity would die next and even though he predicted the death of Castro and that of Komla Dumor in the previous years, it would be in the interest of the celebrities not to treat his prophecies with a pinch of salt.
Asked what might have caused the deaths, he revealed that most of the celebrities go for spiritual powers to be famous and such rituals have consequences. He said these popular figures can’t be blamed entirely since in some cases, their family members seek such spiritual convenants on their behalf.
Apart from the spiritual aspect, the controversial man of God said most celebrities are also not health conscious.
About why he was not able to prevent the deaths, Rev. Owusu Bempah explained that he could not because God works with rules and regulations.
“I cannot pray for them unless the celebrities themselves come to me for us to pray together to prevent the deaths from happening again,” he said.
It seems the “doom prophesy” has put fears in some of the celebrities.
In an interview with Showbiz, Akosua Adjepong who is in shock over the deaths of her fellow celebrities supported Owusu-Bempah’s prophecy. In her view, the number of deaths in the Showbiz fraternity was quite alarming and needed spiritual redress.
“I spoke to Daasebre Gyamerah a week before he passed on and with George Forest , it was just a day before he died. In fact, I don’t know who is dying next but I think something should be done to stop the deaths,” she added.
But comedian Foster Romanus and VGMA Artiste of the year, EL had different opinions.
For Foster, prayer is an individual decision and whether the celebrities pray or not, there is nothing anyone can do when death knocks on your door since it’s inevitable.
EL also said death is a natural phenomenal and no one can question the will of God irrespective of the status of the person involved.
“I believe it is because we are celebrities and we are in the public eye that is why everyone is talking about it. For all you know , there have been more deaths of drivers, lawyers and farmers this year than celebrities but no one is talking about them because they are not popular,” he said.
