It is not true that all actresses trade sexual favours for roles in movies, popular Kumasi-based actress Ellen Kyei White has stated.
According to the Fault star, although some directors demand sex from ladies as a precondition for casting them in movies, it is not true that most actresses get to be on set only after yielding to sexual demands.
Ellen White said these in response to a question on Accra FM’s Entertainment Capital on Saturday April 29 if there were any truths in reports that most actresses get their breakthrough unto the silver screens after going to bed with their directors, with such relationship continuing even on location.
Ellen White, who also starred in Fake Feelings and the Mighty One, explained that it would be no “big deal” if any thespian met their soulmate in the movie industry but “won’t buy” allegations that every actress was guilty of sex-for-role.
According to her, no producer ever asked to have sex with her prior to giving her a role when she ventured into acting, explaining that a few actresses with “bad morals” usually resort to such action thinking that would propel them into the limelight.
“But if that actress has a bad attitude, it doesn’t mean we are all like that. When I was coming into the industry no producer asked to have sex with me before giving me a role. But some come into the industry with their bad character. Some think that is what will bring them stardom, but it’s not like that. Because the moment you allow the director to sleep with you, know that definitely another actress will come and he will have eyes for her too. So definitely those who do that usually do not rise. …You tarnish your own image doing that,” she told show host Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier).
The CEO of White’s Movie Production is premiering her fourth self-produced movie, The List, at the West Hills Mall’s Silverbird cinema on May 5, 2017. Alongside Ellen White, the movie stars Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, Bill Asamoah, Kwaku Manu, Bernice Asare, Sabby Debrah, Akyere Buruwaa, Mama Cali, Funny Fey Akamenko, among others.
