Board Chairman for the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), Nii Ayitey has disputed claims that, 2017 spokesperson for the scheme and a board member, Mark Okraku Mantey said George Quaye has never been the spokesperson for the board.
Mark Okraku Mantey few weeks ago dispelled suggestions that George Quaye who is the Communications Head for Charter House, and also been the spokesperson for the board in the last two editions; has never been the official spokesperson for the board.
Mark Okraku Mantey, speaking to KMJ on DayBreak Hitz on Hitz FM stated emphatically that George speaks for Charterhouse, organizers of the VGMA, and not the Board. “The impression is that he speaks for the VGMA, he does not speak for the VGMA Board. He speaks for Charterhouse. “Throughout, he is not the one supposed to communicate for the Board. In case he did, it was wrong.
“Every year, the Board designates particular people to talk on VGMA matters. Sometimes, they are not communicated,” Mr Mantey had said adding, the media found it convenient to speak with Mr. Quaye but he never represented the board as the official spokesperson. Meanwhile, Nii Ayitey Hammond appearing on GH Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, said Mantey never said that.
When asked if he accepts the claims by Mark Okraku Mantey that George Quaye never was the spokesperson for the board, he said, ‘’I am not answering your question. Let us move on. I said, I haven’t heard Okraku said that, so I am not going to answer your question.’’
Even when the tape was played several times, he still stood his ground claiming that, the statement by his colleague board member has been wrongly interpreted.
“You are creating your own interpretation to the sound,” he stressed.
He explained, George Quaye had for two previous editions, spoken on behalf of the board and “I [Nii Ayitey Hammond] assisted him”.
Guest on the show including Alfred Larbi aka DJ Oxygen, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo expressed shock at the explanation given by Nii Ayitey Hammond.
‘’He [Okraku Mantey] said it. He was clear. So I am surprised that Nii Ayitey Hammond is claiming that we have interpreted his comments wrongly,’’ one of the guest said.
