Comedian Derrick Kobena Bonney, popularly known as DKB, believes that negativity originated from Ghana. According to him, Ghanaians are quick to embrace negative news than positive news. The comedian lamented that the culture of negativity has seeped so deep into the country’s moral fibre that even the creative industry is also feeling its brunt. DKB decried the growing cancer in an interview with Fanky 5 on This Is Gospel on Hitz FM. He said, “Negativity thrives in Ghana a lot. I think negativity originated from Ghana because our people love negative news over positive news.” “Most Ghanaians are not self-inspired so instead of being happy for someone who has been able to gather the courage to take a step, they rather wish they were in the same level so if anything goes wrong, they will hold onto to it and jubilate,” the comedian observed.
He dared that, “If you think I am lying try doing something creative in Ghana,” and that initiative will never see the light of day.
Recounting his own experience, DKB explained that, “I did a lot of shows then but because the notion was that I was not funny, people laugh alright and they forget that I was able to make them laugh. It was depressing.”
One personality, George Quaye of Charterhouse, the comedian revealed, said very demeaning things about comedians in Ghana and even vowed not to use them for any of their shows.
In spite all the criticisms, DKB said he stood firm and strongly believed that he was funny.
