Ghanaian highlife musician, Lucky Mensah, says he has received threatening messages from persons he perceive to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); a party he has cut ties with.
Citing a new campaign song he released in support of the New Patriotic Party as the basis for the threat, Lucky Mensah said the threats will not deter him from supporting the NPP because he has Ghana at heart.
“Some NDC supporters called to warn me. Even yesterday a lady called to threaten me but I am for the country. I have had several calls of threats but that will not stop me”, he told Onua FM Wednesday morning.
In 2008, Lucky Mensah sang the famous ‘Come Back To NDC’ track for the NDC, which became one of the party’s official campaign songs.
Few years later, he released a controversial satirical song titled ‘Nkratuo’ , which sends a message through one ‘Tawiah’ to tell his big brother ‘Atta’ that things are not going well and that the situation has gone very bad.
This was to express his displeasure over how the country was being managed by the NDC.
Though he said he campaigned for President John Mahama in the 2012 election, he felt disappointed and now wants to support NPP’s Akufo-Addo. But his switch from the NDC appears to have angered the supporters who he claim have been threatening him.
Lucky Mensah said on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa Wednesday asked those behind the threats to “desist from that because the late Major Retired Courage Quarshigah was in NDC but left for the NPP.
He added: “Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was in NDC but left to form her party when she realized the NDC was not performing.
So in the same way, I supported the NDC but I have realized I have disappointed Ghanaians by releasing a song and also campaigning for the NDC to win power that is why I have left for the NPP”.
Despite the threats, he said he will be on NPP campaign platforms whenever he is invited.
“I will go to the NPP platforms to campaign for them and the song is also part of the campaign because I had believe in President John Mahama to push Ghana forward after the NPP government but he has disappointed Ghanaians”.
