A little background information about Villy:
Villy is the son of a Delta state Nigerian father and Anambra state mother. He was born and raised in Lagos state in the western region of Nigeria, and went to lambo foundation primary School, then attended Hopebay College, whereafter he pursued a career in singing, then furthered his education in University of Benin where he studied Sociology and Anthropology.
In 1999, Villy started his career professionally as a young musician, in Lagos, moving from one production house to the other; working with different artistes just to express his talent, and also touching lives with his vocals. He later formed a group called REQUEST with a close friend named Dramin.
Their first demo then was produced by dance hall sensation Marvelous Benji. Both duos were admitted into the same university, but for other reasons they merged with a prominent multi-talented musical group on campus called Supreme Cartel, to become a 10 man hip-hop group.
They had several exploits and got a lot of exposure, and VILLY reaffirmed his musical position. He gained major public attention when he auditioned and emerged as a contender in Star Quest 2007. His musical prowess kicked in full gear, which quickly made him the band leader of the group Shyne; he then went on to become the most sensational voice in the house.
Through various phases of growth, VILLY arrived at his present phase, and he and his Group (THE XTREME VOLUME) are now a regular feature at Felabration musical festival.
Since 2011, they have performed there, then in 2012 at the World Music Day concert organized by Alliance Française, Goethe Institute and the British Council Nigeria.
Touring West Africa since 2012, VILLY’S just released his debut EP “Let’s Play” which will help showcase the blend of music he is trying to introduce to the world, called AFRO-FUSION – music from an African point of view, with a hint of foreign blend/influence
VILLY expresses himself in any form available but always with a strong AFRO influence, hence the Genre AFRO-FUSION.
Over the years he has been able to explore every sound known to him, making sure that in every music made by him the listener gets closer to Africa and understands the motherland better. Most of his sources of inspiration come from his day-to-day experiences, and he is also inspired by the likes of Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Femi Kuti and Majek Fashek.
With steady focus and strong resolve to put Nigerian and Africa music on the world map, his lyrics reflect much of history and life in Nigeria. His songs stress the issues of Change, Poverty, War, Corruption and Love. VILLY is a normal man struggling with the issues happening every day in Nigeria, Africa and the world, but with a strong resolve to make a change, with his Music as his weapon for CHANGE! VILLY aims to achieve one thing with his music and message “LOVE”.
